While removing the flywheel from my Merc 150 Offshore, some of the alternator magnets were damaged:eek:.

Has anyone ran into this problem, and if you have what are my options (dealer is looking for $400 + for a new flywheel) OUCH!

THANK YOU

Re: Flywheel magnets

merc doesnt offer the magnents seperatly unfortuntely. if yours are damaged then re-epoxying them is not an option. you may look around, search the iboats site, for a decent used one for about 1/2 the price.

Re: Flywheel magnets

Chipped corners on a magnet isn't a problem. If a magnet is broken, it won't work properly no matter what. ( makes more and different poles.)

Check out eBay for a used flywheel.

There are many salvage outfits. Flywheels don't normally get damaged, so they can be had reasonable.

hope it helps
