flywheel magnets/adhesive

I have replaced the flywheel magnets on my 175 Johnson o/b. The epoxy adhesive required mixing. I stirred the mixture as I spread it over the magnets and the flywheel. Nothing very vigrous but what seemed to be enough to mix paste with the hardner. After setting for 36 hrs the epoxy still has areas that are sticky.My question is : Is the epoxy like fiberglass which will eventually dry and cure when not properly mixed with its hardner?

I think the mixing should have been done prior to putting it on the magnets,sorry to say.Keep an eye on it,maybe it will cure.

Thats what I am hoping. It seems like it should cure even if not throughly mixed. But I don't want to put it back together without being sure. Thankyou for your input.

Epoxy is not like fibre glass resin. Epoxy must be thoroughly mixed to get molecule to molecule contact of the two parts. With fibre glass resin the hardener is a catalyst that doesn't need to be as thoroughly combined.

The epoxy will not cure if not mixed well enough.

I phoned a local marine salvage/repair and they had flywheels which they have already repaired the magnets on. They also used a different adhesive which they have much greater success with, so I purchased a replacement through them rather than fighting it. They have had a lot more experience at this. I have NONE.

After replacing mine, I bought a complete top end electrical system (used) flywheel, stator, and timer base and only needed the stator, so I have an extra flywheel with good magnets for a 175 if you get in a bind.
