Is there a magnet missing on the flywheel or is that space supposed to be there.
Also can the rusty part of the stator be cleaned or should I just leave it as is

Re: flywheel and stator question

The magnets have to be reconnected and evenly spaced in the proper positions. The steel on the flywheel and magnets should be taken down to bare clean metal before the epoxy is applied.

Edit: 6 magnets is correct on the 35 amp system.

As noted above, the magnets came loose, you need to get the kit from an Evinrude/Johnson dealer and re glue them.

Also, I notice in the first (upsidedown) picture that there are bolts missing out of the top bearing carrier.

Re: flywheel and stator question

This is how the fylwheel came off of the motor, so I guess somebody tried to repair them before and did not do it right.
What are the proper positions for the magnets? Are they spaced evenly all around?

flabum you are right, there are bolts missing, I'm in the middle of a re-build due to stuck rings in no 2 cylinder.

OMC (BRP) makes a kit that positions and glues the magnets in place where they belong. Just ask for it at your local dealer.
