I have a 1954 evinrude 25 hp this is the one that has that cover that has screws that you can remove the access to the spark plugs a matter of fact is its gone when i bought it last week i am wondering now if thats the reason its so stuck because water and moisture from sitting could get into compartment easily through this access missing the motor has a problem it is that it is missing the spark on the lower cylinder . I have bought a new coil and have removed the cover and pull starter and have installed a puller on the flywheel and have installed bolts into flywheel sprayed main shaft with loosening agent and began to attempt to pull flywheel one of the threads on one of the 1/4 20 bolts let go the threads on the flywheel i mean and so i have rethreaded it to 5/16 20 and pulling again but the flywheel is not coming free i have heated around the shaft to the point that the fly wheel became to hot to touch because of the dissipation of heat but still no luck in bugjing the fly wheel so i put more loosening agent on and called it a night i am afraid to pull to hard on it because of the thread situation but believe me its tight i can hardly turn the bolt on the puller and i go 250 6'2 a big guy this thing is stuck can you help me out i dont what else to try

Re: flywheel 1954

thank you for the advice. I did go back and retighten to 60 ft lbs and stripped one at a time the two remaining 1/4 x 20 bolts and retap 5/16 x20 then i was able to get the ft lbs up to 75 and pop. It did sound like something broke but surely music to my ears its loose now thanks. p.s. i was hammering on it all the time but the last time after the last rethread i did not and it came off without using the hammer.
