I have been experimenting with a flyrod outfit I purchased this winter. I fished Sunday afternoon for approx 2 hours and caught about 50 blugill and about a dozen crappie and a few small bass. It was the most fun I have had fishing in a long time. With the crappie and gills on the nest it was like taking candy from a baby. Has anyone else flyfished for panfish? If you haven't you're missing a good time.

I love too.. Have'nt done that in quite a while... Best way to fish for panfish, in my opinion..

Along with a regular flyrod and reel outfit, I used to use a 12-14 foot bamboo cane pole with maybe a 14' piece of flyline and a few feet of tippet.. Add a bream killer bug or a little poppin' bug with the white rubber legs, deadly...

Been a long time, Karrick, but that used to be my specialty.

I have two 'gills of 2lb each (12" and 12.5") on my wall from those days.

My favorite rig was a flourescent yellow Weber nitwit popper with a 12" trailer carrying a #12 black gnat. Caught doubles on that rig many times.

For Crappies I always used either a 1/32oz. jig or a tiny ice fishing spoon.

Great fun!! :) And of course the occasional bass would liven things up even more.

Thats my next fishin season, probibly start in about 2 weeks. It,s the only fly fishing I do. I believe it's the most efficient way to catch bedding gills. Only downside is the sore arm/shoulder from "casting" and the little ones that you turn into flying fish, It's a good soreness though. :)

There is no funner fishing...Kinda makes ya feel like a kid again. I use a 4/5 weight rig, what a blast. Didn't get to do it last year as somehow my rod got broke but it is slated for replacment this year. The best part is when everyone figures out how you catch so many fish they start thinking about flyfishing.
