Re: fly wheel

Perhaps someone damaged the holes and went bigger.

Re: fly wheel

If that is the case as said above, make sure you know the correct thread size. Don't force anything.

I have owned this motor since new and never had trouble that the fly wheel needed pulling. I have tried all the bolts I have on hand and nothing fits.. I bought 1/4 and they are to small. 5/16 look about right but won't start. could it be they are metric? Sure wish i knew the correct size to ask for. thanks for any help, maybe some one that has pulled a fly wheel on a 91 evinrude 9.9

Re: fly wheel

I likely have a 1991 powerhead somewhere to check but not beside the computer.

Re: fly wheel

Got it off. Turns out I was looking at the wrong holes. It takes 1/8 inch bolts close to the center of the flywheel. I used a steering wheel puller. Worked great. bsandy

Re: fly wheel

That would be the 1/4-20 NC -No such thing as 1/8" bolts to pull a flywheel on those motors.

usually 1/4 x 20 x 3''. Be sure to use GRADE 8 bolts and washers as well.
