Hello Everyone. Im trying to remove the fly wheel off a Yamaha 2hp. Its been a struggle thus far because it wants to spin as I try to losen the nut. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. Oh yeah one last thing, does the nut go clockwise or counter clock wise? Thank You for your help.

Re: Fly Wheel Removal

All i've seen go on clockwise, If theres no way to hold the flywheel a quick pat on your powerhandle usually does the trick.

mornin' Yamahaboy,

i think that you'll find that "lefty-loosey, righty-tighty" applies.

As to the nut, i use an old belt and a 2x4 as a strap or pipe wrench around the base of the fly-wheel. Then a long ratchet and socket on the flywheel nut.

Might try ssomw WD-40 or penetrating oil on the nut. let it soak for a while. Then maybe, while holding the flywheel with the strap wrench, tap the ratchet with a hammer.

Word of warning. the nut is the easy part. You'll want to get a gear-puller or flywheel puller to get the flywheel off. You can get a pretty decent one at about any auto parts store for about $15.00

Good Luck
HAVE FUN!
