Has anybody heard of plastic bags filled with water keeping flies away? A co-worker of mine just came in and told me that when he went home from work last week, there was a plastic bag hanging on his porch filled with water. He thought someone had given him a fish or something but no. He went inside and asked his wife what the bag was. She told him that she had heard that they keep flies away. He has had a problem with cats "going" under his porch and a lot of flies. He claims that after a week there are no flies. Supposedly, the fly either thinks it's a hornets nest, or the reflection of the water disturbs them. Pest Control

Its not just the water and bag. It has copper pennies in it. This puts off copper sulfate and repels the flies. Or so I have been told.

I tried it after seeing a few of the contraptions. Didn't work. :(

A Fly Swatter works for me. Every time I have one in my hand, there isn't a fly to be found. Yep, I would call one a repellant. ;) :D

We have an old (47 years at location) drive-in burger hut across the hwy from the shop with outside seating, and he has been hanging those bags out for years. Cant tell you if they work or not, but he puts them up every summer.

And a bag of rock salt on top of the electric meter will slow it down too!<br />I retired from the local power company and a few years back houses all over town had a bag of rock salt on top of their meter. They all swore and be damned it worked. Ha

Wow, if it worked we'd be a nation of houses surrounded by hooks for plastic bags. I'll put one out and see what happens. My bet is: nothing! :(
