I have lost the "flushing screw" off of my 1965 Merc 650. Local dealer laughed me out of the parts dept. I dont know where to find this part, or even what it is! Any suggestions short of just junking the boat?

The vent screw should be the same as the drain screw. You might take the vent screw into the parts dept. and see if they can match it.

The vent and drain screws are the same, but the flush screw may be plastic...like on my 74 Merc 500 50 hp. Don't know if the vent/drain screws will fit that thread. <br />You could always prowl the bone yards and look for one.

Otherwise I have seen brass hex plugs used in automotive things like freeze and manifold plugs if you can match the thread. Has to be english thread, likely pipe thread.
