Just got this motor, and in the manual it states that in order to flush the motor, you need to "Remove the Water Plug on the Drive Shaft Housing and screw the flushing plug." Two questions:

1) Where on the Drive Shaft Housing is the Water Plug?
2) In the parts kit I have what appears to be a Flushing Plug but the intake diameter is small and if you stuck a hose around it most of the water would probably just spill out....

thx

Welcome to Iboats,

Check under engine, it's a big nut. Down issue with flusher is that if you remove bolt, screw flusher, remove flusher screw bolt constantly will end screwing the screw thread. Better flush engine on a water bucket with engine on if engine will be used constantly. If it's a 2 stroke, disconnect fuel hose and let engine drop dead while being flushed.

Ah..under the engine - NOT the drive shaft....I think the manual needs to be updated. My plan was to first do the water bucket, then flush via the plug with a hose attached with one of those "in-line" rust-preventing magic fluids....this would only be done once per year at winterization - boat is on mooring, and I don't have easy access to flush more frequently...thanks!

Used to have a 5B5 moons back, used to flush engine after use with flusher or water bucket. Check under outside aft pan, should see a big nut. If connecrting flusher to a garden hose, wrap several rounds of electric tape onto flusher body for a tight fit to hose, add a adjustable flange, the one with end screw on top hose/flusher body and voila!! That's excellent for high pressure flushing.-

The old original flushing adapter required you to fabricate a short piece of hose, possibly with a female garden hose connector. There is a new one, which already has the garden hose connector on it. Attaching it to the flushing port under the power head works, but as Luis noted, frequently screwing the plug in and out will probably wear out the threads in the exhaust housing. On the older M5B motors, we usually flush by running the motor in fresh water, so as not to disturb the possibly corroded threads of the flushing plug.
