I recently picked up this old motor that has sat for many years and wanted to flush lower unit without wasting good gear oil.Is there a cheaper alternative I can run thru it first so I can run it enough to circulate the oil alittle and drain acouple times.?Also, do these motors hold about the same amount as the newer style mid 80's and newer lowers?

I used to use ATF to flush them out. It's cheap and does a good job. JMHO After flushing , fill it back up with your regular oil.

A 1980 might be due for inspection / cleaning and a seal kit.-----Easy to do.-----Might be easier and quicker than this flushing effort.

Thanks..I have that in mind, but need to see if it runs first before putting any money in it for now..Has good spark and compression so next getting it in some water..
