The other day I sucked sand into my 1994 Fling. The alarm went off and it overheated. We removed the impeller unit and cleaned out everything we could find to just past the 45 degree brass connector that leads to the engines coolong system. Compression was fine and there seemed to be no damage to the engine. Put the boat back in the water and it ran like a champ for about 20 minutes and then the alarm went off again. We shut her down and have not touched it since. Is there a way to flush the complete cooling system? I read somehere about using a the prestone flushing kit, But I am not sure where to put it in-line. I also read that OMC made a flushing kit for this engine, but i have not been able to find one. Also, why is there not any screen to stop sand from being sucked up? I live on a river and it gets shallow this time of year.

You have a large water filter in line at the floor of the engine compartment, located just behind the fuel tank. It has a clear bottle with an o-ring and seal. You probably need to clean it out.

The forward hose off the water filter is the main incoming water line to the engine. If you disconnect that and attach a hose, you can flush out the rest of the engine. Do not apply full water pressure or you will force water into the exhaust syatem.

The owners manual for your boat can be downloaded from the following link, however it is large, so be patient. If you save it to your computer it is a valuable resource: http://www.fourwinns.net/ownman/index.html
