I just purchased a 06 F90 Yamaha four stroke, and skeptical about flushing the motor after every use.The manual says to connect the water hose to the hose connecter on the motor and run the water for 15 min. without the engine running.I geuss this is the way the new motors are cause I seen a guy do it this way with a suzuki. The manual says its "the most thorough" way to wash the engine. Is this the best way to flush the motor or should I flush it the normal way by putting the flushing attachment on the leg and run the water and motor?

P.S The manual also says not to run the motor while flushing with the hose connecter thats on the motor. It will damage the pump.

Aloha, sym

I have the exact same engine as your, just bought it this August. Anyway, I flush the engine with a hose to the hose connector, The only time I flush it with a muff is when I am fogging the motor. That is what it said in the manual. Don't run the engine when you are flushing with the hose connector. When flushing, make sure your engine is at a running position.

Look at it this way -- when using muffs, the water pump pushes water through the cooling system with the engine running. Using the built in flush device, city water pressure pushes water through the cooling system without the engine running. The only difference in these procedures is where the water enters and whether or not the engine is running. In both ways the cooling system gets flushed so why not do it the easy way and simply use the built in flusher. You don't need to bother the neighbors with a noisy engine.

By the way matt, is your model #F90TLR? It seems to be a letter missing.Like a "D". cause the 05 is F90TLRC.seems odd to me.

~Aloha, sym

If we had a shrapneled impeller on an f90 and changed the lower unit and now it will not pee water out when it is hooked up to the hose connection what would be the next thing to do?
Or is this when to send it in. I m afraid that impeller chunks are blocking.
