Had a great day of fishing today except for loosing one serious head shaking drag stripping fish... I dunno what it was, (had just turned it off of bottom in 120ft.) but i suspect it was either a very large mutton snapper or an amberjack because thats what we were catching in the area...

I lost the fish after about 5 minutes because my knot pulled.. I was using 60lbs fluorocarbon leader tied to a 4/0 hook with a improved clinch knot...

I'm wondering what other knots would be good for fluorocarbon line?

Re: Fluorocarbon Line Knots?

the improved cinch knot is handsdown my last choice in a knot ...use only for small flys...

first off what's flouro line all about..
as opposed to reg mono..??

my number one NON SUPER clear water line is proline..

my number one knot for any line is the palomar knot.. just can't beat it.. 100 % knot..

caught a 5 foot amberjack in cancun ...about killed me.. i'm 6' 1" an field dress 220.. an workouted out hard for cancun.. an as stubborn as the next guy an almost sissied out.. like reelin' in a studebaker.. believe me,, i was hopin' bigtime that the mate used a cinch knot an the fish escape.. an i save face.. :)

i honestly didn't enjoy it.. i like more run & play on lighter tackle.. that kind of fishin',, you can have it..

The universal knot is the uniknot. I have never had one slip, with any kind of line.

The thing ablut the clinch knot and flourocarbon, it that you need to make sure the line is wet when you sinch it up. If not it will fray.

Crabby... Fluorcarbon is very hard for the fish (and me) to see when it's underwater.. It's very clear.. Good for areas that are heavily fished where the fish are weary of taking a bait that's tied to a mono leader.. It's for pickey eaters... :D

Hummm.. Palomar and the Uni... Got my knot book out and I shall give em' a try.. Thanks..

Not sure how the trilene knot will hold up to flurocarbon but I have used it and have never had a knot come undone. Here is the link to how to tie it. Looks more secure then the uniknot because you have two loops around the eye.
trilene knot

I'd tie a bimini twist, but it's a little bit like overkill... They take so long to tie, and you just about have to be a full on contortionist to tie the dang thing... (yes, i can tie it)

Thanks again Guys...
