I am curious and want to possibly add a set of pods to my 98 Lowe Olympic 1862. And drawbacks people find? Or what? The reason why I am thinking this:

So this will be my 3rd year with my new 02 Mercury 60hp bigfoot. The motor weighs 239lbs vs my old 86 50hp Yamaha which comes it at 165. I am adding a 12 gallon tank going up from a 6 gallon. So that’s why I’m thinking along those lines…thanks

I somehow don't see that working out too terribly well. In addition to adding flotation, you're also adding wetted surface area to the hull so it will negatively impact the marginal HP gains that were realized going fro ma 50 to a 60HP engine. With additional drag, additional fuel usage.

If the boat's rated for a 60, I'd just run as is with the additional fuel. Subtract a passenger from your weight rating to compensate for the additional fuel and motor weight.

Right on, I wasn't sure about the pods, id like to move the gas to under the back bench seat eventually and have it centered more as well. But a project for another day!

If your adding extra weight thru another motor, you might consider moving weight forward !! Especially that bigger fuel tank...my two cents anyway...

yea i think i may eventually, i dont think the extra 6 gallons of gas is goign to cause many issues for the summer, ive had the motor on the boat for 2 years already and been fine, just seen a few john boats lately with those pods on there. Id like to move the console up about 2 feet may 3 and my back bench up the same. but not sure.
