I'm gonna make the trip to Lake Griffin for the iboats get together. Problem is, all I ever fish is saltwater. I do have some nice ultralights that I can rig for the lighter stuff, but I need some pointers on spec, bluegill or even bass fishing in Floida lakes in May. Our trip is for the 15-17 of May. Lake Griffin is smack dab in the middle of the state south of Ocala.
I would love to hear about baits, tackle, techniques, times of day, etc to catch a few. Thanks, guys! :)

Re: Florida spec fishin

I fished Lake Griffin many years ago and had good luck on crappies (called specks or speckled perch down there).

I floated a small yellow jig or a small yellow Mister Twister grub 24" under a bobber. Others did well fishing minnows at about the same depth. The occasional bass took those baits.

For bluegills I fished a small popping bug on a fly rod with a 12" dropper carrying a #10 Black Gnat. Took some bass on that, too.

For bass I cast a #9S original Rapala.

I used to speck fish in Lake Harney (St. John's River). Cane poles out of the bow and stern, and a couple of regular lines in the middle. Drifted sideways across the lake with minnows and jigs. When you'd drift over a bed, all the poles go down at once. Mark the spot and repeat.
