We are planning to deliver a 33' Grady White from mIslamorada to George Town, Exuma this week. We understand the seas have been very rough. Is there a good marine advisory website or any "rules oif thumnb" for this crossing?
Routing advice appreciated. Thank you.

The weather and Gulf Stream don't always follow your schedule. Don't attempt unti until the weather is right. Most folks leave in the middle of the night when the winds die down. Smart folks go with two or more boats together. The stream can get nasty quick and not a good place to have a breakdown.

Leave a float plan and make sure someone is waiting for you to call when you arrive and make sure they know just when to start getting worried. Make sure all of your equipment is working before you leave.

NOAA's "Notice to Mariners" is now being published on their website. Check this and the weather. Then check the weather again and again before starting out. Obviously, you have to have a good radio and preferably a backup radio just in case. Better to cross with other boats and stay in close contact. It can get mighty lonely out there in the Stream if your motor starts sputtering.

Good stuff so far.. Float plan and a buddy-boat is the best way..

A word about NOAA.. In my opinion, the long range forecast is just about worthless, most of the time...

About the only semi accurate forecast on NOAA's website will be for the same day or following day.. After that, it's a crap-shoot...

Great advice all around:

Remember the stream can really rip, your next look at land might be Bermuda.

Safe boating ya'll
