1985 yamaha 25hp 2stroke i just bought this puppy a week ago and it appears to have set up for a long time. it ran strong for a week, except for the pisser was a pisser to get unclogged of salt and sand crud... now after running premium test and pensoil fuel oil mixture to exact mixing ratios, it has begun flooding and fouling out my new spark plugs after a short run.... the locals say it is the float...i took it apart and checked it out and it seems fine..... what else could cause it to flood out if it isn't the float needing to be replaced....would like to consider all options before i run to the dealer to get a new float.

the motor ran strong for a good 7 days straight...and i am at a loss for what could cause this delima.

Re: flooding engine

Typically when they sit a long time the fuel system needs to be gone over from tank to carb(s)
When not done the fuel system tends to get worse and worse as time goes by.If it is flooding it is usually the float valve not closing properly.Could be sticking or something in the seat.also check the choke is opening properly.
Also sometimes the fuel pump diaphram gets a hole in it and gas will get into the combustion
chamber of the cylinder that supplies the pulses to the pump. The plug on that cylinder may tend to foul easier than the other.

Ditto, Steelspike.

Replace the needle/seat assembly and a fuel pump rebuild would be in order.

By the way, you do not need premium fuel. 87 octane is fine. Premium tends to add to combustion chamber deposits. It burns too slow and cool.

Re: flooding engine

thanks guys for the info...luckily my problem didn't turn out to be as drastic a delima...once i got the float out again and sprayed some good carb cleaner in, the "magnito" for the float broke loose and i cleaned it good...maybe a tad of microscopic crud was making it freeze open... ran it today on a test run and decided to stay out and joy ride for some time even in the cool breeze and swells.
