This is a new build 1985 260 w/ Edelbrock 1409 carb built by a friend of mine Ray who owns Storm crank ( yea its a plug for him). Engine is solid and runs great. Only problem I'm having is sometimes the carb starts flooding real bad at idle. I haven't checked fuel pressure yet but I know it has to be around 5.5. In the likely event that I need a fuel pressure regulator dose anyone have any suggestions? Also If a fuel pressure reg is installed will it cause problems with the fuel pump OR is there a fuel pump I can use that will put out 5.5 lbs pressure. Thanks

Well it easily could be the fuel pressure, but it could also be a sticking float in the carb too. I would verify the carb is good before opting for a fuel pressure regulator. JMHO!

When the flooding happens engine is at idle and died, throttle at idle.Gas comes out in a steady drip. I remove Metering rod so as not to bend them, open up top of carb to check floats and they seem ok. Put every thing back and it seems to run fine. I doesn't happen all the time. Now I'm wondering if it 's the fuel pump. I don't recall seeing 2 gaskets on it. Also can't seem to get info on what the fuel pressure is on a mercrusier fuel pump.

Fuel pressure should be between 3-7 psi.

Don't see your issue as being a pressure issue, it more like a worn needle seat, needle valve or float sinking or adjustment as GM mentioned
