Bought a 2003 yamaha 850(I think) and had not even run a full tank of gas out of it when my dad put it in the water and left the drain plugs out. The next morning it has filled up with water. We get water out and it finally cranks but will not go faster then 18mph. Any suggestions on what to do?

Due a compresion check. You should be within 5 lbs of each other. You could have water ingestion damage, which would require a rebuild! In the future, any time you flood engine compartment. Get water out, pull plugs and crank motor over untill no water comes out the spark plug holes. (this may take a while) Get it started, and run it HARD for 1/2 hour minmum, an hour would be better to get insides dry and lubed back up at the sime time.

you might just have some water in the carbs...if the water got inside the engine sooner or later you will have problems ..i would do what BIXLL said do a compresiion check if there was any water in the cylinders its gone by now anyway ..change your plugs see if there is any water in the carbs other than that hook up the hose and let it idle for some time to get all the water burned out , out of the fuel system if there is any

Dom

We took it to the dealer we bought it from and they called us yesterday and said they couldnt find anything wrong with it. They originally said the "Reeds in the carberator prob got wet". I am not a mechanic so I have no idea what they are talking about. They said they were going to do more tests so as soon as I find out I will let yall know. Thanks for the info.
