Float Sunk

The cork float in my 6 gal. OMC gas tank has sunk. I took it apart and can probably get one at the nearest Johnnyrude dealer which is quite a ways away. Has anyone tried using a cork from the local hardware store?

It would have to be sealed, alot of hassle for a small price

Not so much the price as the distance. What would be an appropiate sealer? urethane varnish maybe?

That should work we use to shellac them

Make sure the float is dry and all the fuel evaporated out of it before you apply the coat.
