Currently working without a manual, can't locate one around here. Would anyone happen to what the float settings for a 1969 55 HP Evinrude would be. Just tore my carbs apart and trying to get them cleaned up and get everything set to the correct specs to see if it will resolve the problems I've been having. 100% sure the probs with carbs.. More than likely will purchase kits for rebuild but want to try this out first.. I'm a little leary of the float settings being correct since the plugs were about .010 too close.. Yes, shadetree mechanic here!!

Re: Float Setting

Howdy, Wmsclan. With the assembly inverted, "the top of the float should be parallel with the lip of the casting." Direct quote from Glenn's Johnson Outboard Motor Repair and Tune Up Guide. I hope that is clear enough. If not try me again.

On the plugs: Some books say to gap at .040, others (more recent) say .030. Apparently, OMC changed their mind. The reports I have gotten say it doesn't seem to matter, except that if you gap at .030 it will take longer for neglected plugs to burn out a too-big gap. Nobody mentioned that at .030 they would foul quicker. Take your choice.

Red sky at night. . .
JB

Thanks JB, clear enough on the float setting, the plugs were gapped at .020, thinking that is a litle to close??
