Hi

I need to replace the fuel tank on my sports cruiser, at the moment it is an aluminium one at the back, i have no idea how many ltrs it holds, i want to replace this with a plastic one.
First question, having never attempted to replace a fuel tank before is it hard to do? and what would i need to do to get the job done?
Also where would i buy a plastic fuel tank?

Many Thanks
Jim

Hi Jimmi

Wondering how you got on with your tank replacement?

I also have a Fletcher 18 Sportscruiser and need to remove the tank to drain water from it. So far I have been unable to get the floor lifted due to the bonding used to hold it down - it's like a strong white silicone.

I can however tell you that the tank is directly behind the front seats in the middle of the boat, it can be visually inspected by removing the cabinet in the floor and unscrewing a plywood sheet (you will have to pull the carpet back from the edges of the sheet to access the 12 or so self tapper screws that hold it in place. (it is impossible to remove pipes etc from this position, to do so requires the floor to be lifted)

FYI the tank is of aluminium construction and is _approx_ 24"W x 24"D x 16"H - another site I was on had tech specs and quoted the tank as holding 100 litres.

Any tips on lifting the floor would be appreciated. (If the worst comes I may end up cutting a hole in the floor and fitting an inspection hatch just above the level sender unit)

That doesn't sound right: (H*L*W)/231= gallons. In your case, that would be (24*24*16)/231 = 9216/231 = 39.89 US gallons ... or essentially a 40 gallon tank. There are 3.78 liters in each gallon so 40*3.78 = 152 liters.

I'm not guaranteeing that that's the size Jimmi needs but if his tank is the same measurements, it is correct. And in any case, this is how you figure the volume of any rectangular gas tank.

Hi Pete

I ended up paying a local company to do it, the took the tank out and fibre glassed the whole tank, they even put on new fuel pipes and only charged ?250.

I sold the fletcher recently and bought a Hardy Pilot 20, the fletcher was fun but i prefer to fish.
