Hi,
Not been on here for a while, too much fun on the water :D

I restored my Arrowbeau about a year and a half ago, new transom and floor. I was running a 1979 Johnson V4 140hp but melted a piston :grumpy:.

The engine was great apart from needing a bank loan to run it lol My question is will a 50hp four stroke get my boat on the plane? Just want somthing good on fuel that can get the boat up, I know im not going to get any amazing top speeds lol

You'll be lucky to get replies to stuff like this. One of the easiest question, people just cannot be bothered/not interested assuming someone else can do it instead.

As for your question. 50hp is too small on a 17ft boat. You ideally want from 80+ or you will struggle especially when loaded up with people.

FYI I've also replaced the transom on mine. It was a fair amount of work, but so nice to know there is not one bit of old rotten wood on it. Also better forum for UK based boats is probably Sports Boat and RIB magazine forum • Index page

I dont know your boat, or the weight of it. But if its rated at 140HP max, a 50HP will not do you any good. You dont want to go smaller then 70 to 75% of max HP.
