Hi all,

Can anyone help me identify a fleetmaster lower unit? The numbers it are 16234934 3. It also has the text fleetmaster, Mercury, Kiekhaefer. It can be seen on ebay under item# 350314499600 I am considering it for a replacement lower unit for my 1963 850 but the seller does not identify what engine it came from so I can't tell if it would fit or could be made to fit. Any help would be appreciated.

Anything with the word "Kiekhaefer" on it will be fairly old. I looked at the pictures and the style says the same thing. Difficult to say from the pictures, but it looks quite big too. Maybe the inline 6s or the early V6s.

Sorry I can't be any more help.

Thanks Chris, any feedback is better than none. I' am hoping it is from an early inline 6 with a 2.3:1 or 2:1 gear ratio.

Hi all,

Some times the old casting number ARE identical with the part numbers...
1623-4934A8 are a 1973 Merc1500 lower unit, 2:1 ratio .

Might bolt onto your 850, but might require some modification of the shift shaft and reverse lockout functions...

+ it would be louder than your old lower unit, the older lower unit didn't have the "grates" Port & Stbd, above the anti-ventilation plate and fwd of the trim tab... they allows the exhaust to exit there as this LU are from a engine that had a internal exhaust tube , you engine does not have this tube...

Block the "grates" and you will be fine...

Thanks Arne, I am aware that some mods might be necessary but, being a handy guy, I'm not overly concerned. I will double check the measurements given on E-bay to make sure it bolts up but will likely move forwards with this option.
