1984, 50hp, Merc...
Well friends, I thought I had it made.

Pulled the head to replace a leaking Exhaust cover gasket, got it replaced... Also replaced the power head gasket.
In the process I separated the upper and lower shift shafts. So I pulled the lower unit, busted my a** to get them back together but finally succeeded. So now I'm back in business.
Tightened everything back up, lubed the studs drive shaft, everything that I thought needed it...
And turned the key, and it fired right up.. I'M A HAPPY CAMPER. But after looking around I find a new water leak under the power head, another at the lower unit front bolts and joint (there is not gasket there). Also a small water leak around the bottom spark plug. What gets me, is I never even touched the plugs or the cylinder head or whatever it is called.
Anyway let me try to make this short. How big of a problem is a leak at the powerhead gasket, another around a spark plug, and another at the lower end to the drive shaft housing or studs/bolts that hold it together????

One more thing, at the top of the drive shaft there is a Drive shaft seat assembly (plastic bushing that is splined to fit around the drive shaft) and on top of that goes a Splined Drive Shaft Seal. This seal is tapered at one end. Does the tapered end go up or down. Looking at the parts and how they fit together and go up to meet with the engine, I would think the tapered end goes up, but looking a schematics they look like it goes down...

Sorry for the long post, hope you can help me out. I'll be tearing into it tomorrow, it's been a long day
