I have a new to me 6hp 2000 4 stroke Mercury But it looks like a tohatsu
it died on the first day of th long weekend great bargain huh, went around to have it fixed but everyone is out of town way too busy etc
The way it died was fuel starvation no doubt so I wanted someone to clean the carb, I had already checked the float bowl it was clean.
next I filtered the gas in the tank, through a paint strainer wow lots of dirt, then got a new see though fuel filter, cleaned the plugit was oily did a comp test (finger) gas in the water after choke spark on the plug still nothing finally unscrewed the little screw on the bottom of the float bowl, and gas peed out, ....after that it starts with just a tug and runs perfect!! so what the helll is that screw for?

That drain screw on the bottom of your Tohatsu allows you to let out dirty fuel that prevents your engine from running.
