Can you please help me?
My 1977 25 horse evenrude has been leaking oil out a bottom vent hole.
Turns out water has got into my gear box and taking a inspection the water either got in the shifter o ring or input shaft seal.
Are these generaly the only two places the water can get in other then the bottom end seals?

I am going to replace all the seals and water pump, only trouble is I dont know how to remove the imput shaft seal?
Scared I may crack casing?
Does the whole seal come out as one?
And should I use a pulley or give it to a engineer.
All replies are much appreciated, thanks

Re: Fitting input shaft seal plesae?

Hi John
To remove the driveshaft seal (input) I made a long punch with a short, flat, 90 deg. bend on the end. Tap out seal from the bottom. If you try to pry this seal out from the top you will run the risk of breaking the housing. The same goes for the shift shaft seal. You will need a long punch with a slight sholder to drive out the o-ring bushing, and the install.
