Hello everyone. I'm relatively new at fishing. My buddy and me were going to go down to the Ohio river this weekend to fish. I heard fishing next to the damn at the falls of the ohio are great. I also heard there are many water hazards for a boat while fishing there, such as rocks. How close should I fish from the damn? Does anyone have any experience here? I would appreciate the input. Thanks.

If you want to know more about a specific local area. The Indiana board or Kentucky board here would be able to help much more. http://www.fishin.com/forums2/forumdisplay.php?f=187

If Tyme2Fish weights in on this he should be able to give you some pointer. He caught a giant of a catfish not too long ago in that area.

My advice is to NOT GO BY BOAT. Seriously, if you don't know that water it will bite you hard. The water levels change all the time and even I will not navigate a boat to the upper dam if the lower water levels are below 13 feet.

You can fish from the shore on the Indiana side at the Falls of the Ohio museum. Take lots of jig heads and white grubs. They are the cheapest to replace as you'll get snagged up in the rocks quite a bit.

You can also free float chicken livers. Just a small split shot with a circle hook and the liver. Let it float in the current as far as you can.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info. We ended up staying on the east side of the damn. Went and ate at cunninghams creekside. Only caught 1 5lbs cat, but had fun. I still want to try the falls sometime. I think that will be my next trip.
