In the many different years of going on vacation in canada I have always broken a rod some way or another. Either closeing the car door on the tip or sliding the rod into its case and finding out that one of the eye's have broken off. I need a little advise from others on how to design a new rod holder. One that will be long enough to hold my muskie rods and soft enough not to damage my ultralights. my thoughts were to get a piece of 4" pvc pipe about 8 feet long and cut it down the center length wise. hindges on one side and clasps on the other with 1/2" foam to protect the rods. Rubber caps to go over the end and there you have it a new rod case with that opens flat so you can set your rods in there and not just jam them in. Also you would never have to worry about dirt and road grim on your rods from transport. I guess Im looking for support if others have the same problem that I do and would like a simp cases to hold their roads.

Re: Fishing Rod Cases

I built one out of PVC pipe for my dad when he flew with his rods, I capped one end with the cap fitting and used a big hose clamp on the other end with another with slots cut out, also put a handle on it with an old belt and some short screws and some epoxy. Also if you want you can mail it to the hotel or house your going to be at so you don't have to lug it around, send it a couple of weeks ahead of time and call to make sure its there. Since I made this for him 5 or so years ago I have seen some pretty nice pre-built rod carriers that retract for storage. I believe SKB has a nice one.....Hope this helps.....Warren

Re: Fishing Rod Cases

I'd pay for an aluminum or plastic one that opened up like a hinged rifle case. Problem is most of my rods are one piece, so case would have to be 7' long.
