I'm just learning to fish with plastic worms and have a question, I went out today for the first time and made about 20 cast or so and noticed the line was twisting to the point that the line was starting to knot up, I rig a worm with a hook and no weight, I was in shallow water, tied the hook to th erline and started casting, What did I do wrong?
I think i'm going to go to deep water and I read I could add a weight on the line, If I don't put the weight on the head of the worm, how far up the line should the weight be and can I use a swivel on the to prevent the twisting??
Any help would be great

How you rig the worm is important. Senko's are expensive but you know it's not the lures fault if they are not working. I personally like to Texas rig them and put a very small split shot at the head. I'll admit however that I rarely use plastic worms any more.

I love to use plastic worms, bumping them over logs etc. I use a regular worm hook and a slip weight rigging it weedless.
I can't picture why your line is twisting like that unless your trying to rig the worm with the hook pushed completely through the center length wise causing it to spin on the axis of the hook.

I have never had a twist issue with or without a weight.

Rig up a worm like your doing and post it.

Unfortunately I just put my boat and equipment away last week or i would post a pic on how i rig mine.

Thanks eveyone, I think I was rig it with too much of the worm head on the hook which made it curved and was causing it to spin. I brought some hooks to try that have the weight made on the hook, do those work good?
Can't get out today, its blowing hard on the Perquimans River, NC.

Try the type of hooks used in this pic

It would be hard to get line twist with this rig.

I also like to use swim bait hooks when fishing worms. I use the ones with the corkscrews and you can get them with or without weights.

Being crooked would caused line twist and it would be worst if you were reeling it fast. It is REALLY important to rig the worm on the hook as straight as possible. A swivel would add some weight and eliminates twist.
