I have got to tell you, this year's fishing sucks. It must be all the rain and the massive amount of snow run off that has the water levels so high this year. Everywhere I go, the fishing is a shadow of what it was in previous years.

Has any one else noticed this trend? I fish mostly South Eastern Ontario (Ty River and Matawaska) - Western Quebec (Ottawa River - Gatineau River - Baskatong Reservoir) and Northern New York (Adirondack Lakes too many to name).

All of them, I catch a fraction of what I normally catch.

I'm with ya there cprince. I find the #s are lower and the ones we do catch are under the size of the big ones we grabbed last year. (Mostly bass and pike on White Lake in Ontario)

I've had a very good year fishing. Walleye in Saginaw Bay has been awsome. Salmon in Lake Michigan is been very good. I even took a trip up to St. Ignace and did very well on Lake Trout.
I finaly got my boat ready this year and used it every chance I could. Glad I did but sad its over.

It depends what your fishing for here, there's an abundance of bluefish, anc small atlantic croakers, but flounder and stripers seem smaller on average.
Several buddies have said that they've done well on the shore fishing for Kingfish, but I've not gotten down there yet myself.
Due to the cooler spring and summer and unusually low water temps the fishing turned on late hear. The average ocean water temp at the beginning of Aug. was still below 65 degrees or so. Water temps didn't really begin to rise here till a few tropical storm fronts pushed some warmer water this way.
I think if the water had warmed a bit more we would have had a better summer season but we wouldn't have had such a long spring fishing season. Stripers and black drum seemed to stay around a bit longer this spring although those of legal size seamed fewer.
There's also a huge abundance of baitfish this year, especially over the past month or so. I've observed the water just boiling with peanut bunker and spearing. With that much bait in already in the water, fish are far less likely to take your offering.

this year was not very good for salmon in milwaukee, but i spent alot of time learning how to troll in my new boat, and i didnt have any previous experience specificly targeting our huge browns and steelies which have always proved to be alot more difficult shore fishing than salmon but now i got em dialed in, i dont do as well as others but i consistantly catch at least 4 or 5 browns and steelies with an occational 17+ brown. love it...

go to canada every year, eagle lake had so much rain and snow this last year water levels were at the highest i have ever seen. the spring walleye fishing was ok but not as good as previous years. the muskie fishing in september was better though. they let the dam flow at full capacity all summer. that was a site to see. lost of water flowing out. hope this spring will be back to normal. new old boat, going to leave it up there so i don't have to drag it back and forth behind the motorhome. have gone through it front to back and made many new mods and upfits. so this year will be fun, no guide for the first time and just can't wait till spring!!!!!!!!!!!
