Re: Fishing In New Brunswick

Hello

There are 2 bass fishing circuits in operation here in New Brunswick, The New Brunswick Sportfishing Association ( NBSFA), and the NB Pro Bass Tour.
These are both greatly run tournamnets.

The NBSFA has a free membership this year to first timers. They also have a 70hp and under circuit, and only costs $50 per tourny. There is one next weekend in Woodstock.

Both these circuits have web sites so check them out and maybe give one of them a try.

Also there is also an annual tournament on McDougall Lake that the campers put on, and it is a good tournament. I am not sure of the date but I think I fished it a couple years ago and it was around this time of year.
Do you have a boat? If it is 70 hp and under the small boat series is a fun circuit. That is where I currently fish, and it is a good time.
If you want anymore info let me know.

I do have a boat and it is onlty a 14' aluminum with a 25 hp johnson. With the entry fees is that per boat (2 people) or per person?

Yes it is $50 per boat, 2 people. You must have a livewell/cooler with an aerator to keep the fish alive as it is a live release, 5 fish total weight. There is also a launch fee, which I believe is $7 which helps pay for the people working the tournament, and there is an optional $10 lunker pool.

I might have to give it a try. And i'm guessing that both people in the boat must be members. I just have to get my boat registered. I'm sure they don't look too kindly on an unregistered boat. Do you know anything about registering a boat around here?? Will they send you a bill for the taxes later or is it actually free as they claim?

I believe that you still register a boat through Canada Customs, just give them a call. Have a receipt for the boat showing the numbers on the side, and they will put it in your name. I had them bill me later when I did mine a few years back. For the tournament, they will not check.

Yes both people in the boat have to be members, but if it is your first time joining then it is free.

Make sure you have a livewell, life jackets, and a kill switch on the motor. They are things they will check prior to putting the boat in the water.

Did you check out the NBSFA web site??
You can post there also and any other questions you have they can answer also.
Any info you want don't hesitate to ask, you can send me an e-mail or private message I belive they call it here if you want.
The tournament is this Saturday and I heard the fish were biting up there so it should be fun.

Re: Fishing In New Brunswick

My boat doesn't have any numbers on the side of it at all right now. That's part of the problem. Also it's so old that it doesn't have the plate with the max HP rating on it either nor can I find the HIN, and I don't even know what kind of boat it is. Maybe I just won't bother with licensing it at all.

I can make a livewell out of an old cooler no problem. I'll just have to try to find some sort of aerrator that will run off a 12v battery. I will also have to try to rig up some sort of kill switch for the motor. There isn't one on it right now. But looking at the tournament schedule, the only one coming up that I'd be able to make it to is the Aug 16 one at Lake Utopia. Maybe I'll save the free membership till next season and try it then since I'll have more tourney's to enter in.

I am not sure if there will be the free membership option next year or not. This was the first year for it, and maybe the only. It was to try and entice new members. Also every year at the annual banquet there is a boat package avaible by a draw. To be eligible you have to be a member ( free for you), fish at least one tournament, and purchase a ticket to the banquet. It's a pretty good deal. A fellow I work with won it a few years back. With each tournamrnt you fish your name goes in for the draw i.e. fish 3 tournaments and your name goes in 3 times.
I hope to see you out there..
