I am enthusiastically interested in buying a kayak for fishing. I live in Rhode Island - close to the water wherever I go - and I was wondering if someone could give me some advise on what type and size kayak to consider for fishing (flyfishing and spinfishing) for striped bass? bluefish? etc?
Thanks, Doug

I have fly fished out of a kayak a couple of times in Key West - with Key West Kayak Fishing and Eco Tours" - web site is "keyskayakfishing.com." You might email him and ask for his recommendations. Had a great time - turned some big tarpon - but none hit (thank goodnesss!!)

Good luck!

Kind of lends itself to a great visual if you were to tie into a real "hog" <@)))<< - Hang On for a Ride!!!

Re: Fishing from a kayak

Hi Doug,
I don't know about the method to fish or which kayak to buy but I would like to share an experience we were privaleged to observe.
Last summer my family were fishing out from Long Bay in the Coromandal Peninsular. We were returning from a trip and saw a commotion going on at the waters edge. In the water were two young boys with two kayaks one of them straining to hold onto something flapping about a lot. To our surprised he' caught a 20lb+ snapper on a length of thread only 30' long. All achieved in only 4' of water!
His dad on the beach could hardly keep his pride in check and everybody there (over 100 folk) were all cheering them on. Once landed and weighed he won the monthly competition of $100 held by the local motor camp. This was one proud 11 year old lad and his mate. I don't think mum and dad could get that fish away from their son for some time, the kids kept parading it around the camp all day!
Ross
