Fish finder

I would like to know if it is better to attach the fish finder transducer to the boat or is it better to attach it to a 2x4 and clamp it to the boat. If it matters i have a hummingbird piranhamax 150. The boat is a 1964 starcraft seafarer 14 ft aluminum, with a 1962 18 hp johnson sea horse if it makes a difference. Thanks.

Where did the 2x4 idea come from? The transducer, should be mounted to the boat, as per instuctions. Are you trying to make it portable, for more then one boat?
