I am buying a boat with an old depthfinder and want to upgrade to a modern fishfinder. There are a lot of brands and models out there. A few reviews seem to favour the Garmin 240 Blue and the Furuno LS-6100, but they are often based on deep salt water tests. I am looking for something for trolling and casting in Minnesota lakes. Does anyone have any good recommendations? I want a unit with temperature and speed, with a large display that can be easily red in all weather conditions.

i have a hummingbird, its ok but people seem to really like the eagle's. they say you get more bang for the buck! if i got a new one, it would probably be an eagle.

If you get the chance to operate several including the GARMIN, thats the one you will go home with. I run in Canada for 6 days with a Lawrance x-75, and a X-85, for 5 of the days, and on the 6th, the owner told me to take a different boat that had a GARMIN 240, and that 1 day sold me big time on GARMIN........ :D

i have a garmin 240 but its not the blue model. it works greats and i used it in Lake Ontario and now its on my ocean boat. Sometimes you can actually see the fish rising after you lures while trolling. Its a great piece of equipment! Good luck on your purchase.

Re: Fish Finder

I have owned Hummingbird, Bototmline, Eagle and Garmin units. The Garmin is currently on my boat and it has performed very well.
Both the Eagles and the Garmins are good pieces of equipment for the money.

:D

Re: Fish Finder

I have heard a lot of good things about the Garmin but have never used one. I have had two Hummingbirds and two Ealges. I would never buy an other Hummingbird to many problems. I would go with an other Eagle or try a Garmin next time.
