Fish Finder....I need some advice on a fish finder. Last year I bought a Lowrance X88DF. The thing is worthless. Marked fish for a while now marks nothing. It is now a good depth finder. I have moved the transducer, gave it its own battery, everything. Does anybody have any suggestions on a good replacement? I do not want to go through this again, I will pay a little more for a good one.

I typically fish the great lakes for salmon in water 65 - 400 feet.

Re: Fish Finder Recommendation

I just hooked up the power/transducer to my new Raymarine unit yesterday. Very, very, very happy.
Oh, and did I say I was happy with it? Talk about marking fish, and clarity. I turned around on my way in last night just to see the sun hit the screen, not a noticable difference. And I had my shades on. Can't even see my old GPS screen, but this is truly a sharp and brilliant display. Check out the 500x, I put in the 600. Good luck!

On your old unit turn the sensitivity up until you get false returns in the depth you are fishing. You should see fish. However Salmon are very hard to see on a depth finder at least in salt water. Most say can not see Salmon at all unless the have a eaten a lot of bait fish. It could be just a transducer.

At 400 feet you do need a dual frequency unit and at least 500 watts RMS and high vertical resolution. I suggest for that depth to check out the best two Lowrance and Furuno. 250 feet or less I like Lowrance, Depper than 250 of salt water or 300 feet fresh water I like Furuno.

Thanks for the input. I am going to give Lowrance one more shot.

I talked with them today and they said there was a design flaw in the tranducer sent with my FF.

They are sending a new one. If this doesn't work I will sending it to the land fill.
