So, on the 215 Osprey Sports the deck drains into the engine well which in theory sounds great but then there are the two fish boxes that are nearby. Even with the boat tilted pretty good on the trailer it doesn't drain well and water back up and will fill up the fish boxes. Doesn't seem too bad but I live in New Jersey and the water will freeze in the boxes as well as the related tubing and macerator pump.

What I'm trying to do is brain storm a bit with your help on either draining the deck better

1st two photos are the deck drain in the hull and where it exits into the engine well. The other is the fitting on the fish box exiting under the deck.

If the rest of your drains (uv rot and cracked) are in as bad a shape as those posted, you have bigger problems than water freezing in the bottoms of fish boxes.

FWIW..I've never winterize the live wells, fish boxed or deck drains.

The water in the low spots of the hoses will freeze, but nothing to worry about since the passage ways are open ended, large ID hoses that can't trap enough water to cause freeze damage.

If your that worried about it, pour some potable, RV antifreeze in them and your good

Fish boxes on these boats (97-04) run from the box through the stringers and meet up at a T and then come up to the pump. Water will sit in that line all the time unless I disconnect the hose at the T to drain it into the bilge. Boat is a Tournament Master series so all through hulls are brass. Only plastic is in the boxes to below deck or this drain through to the engine well area.

Use a wet vac to suck the water out and pour a quart of RV anti-freeze in the drain(s) as part of your winterization process.....

I'm fortunate in that all my drains (deck, splash, live and bait well drains) are above the water line and go directly overboard.

Has anyone changed the way the water exits the deck on these boats? I wouldn't exactly call this self bailing.

Is the deck above the water line?
If so, how much?

The entire drainage system must be above the water line.

My cockpit floor is roughly 3" above the water line. Have deck drains (right angle) in the floor with scupper valves in the transom

Yes, but not by much in the back. I'll have to try and get some type of measurement. I just figured that there are a bunch of these boats around that someone must have figured something out.

Put a cover over the boat after you winterize. The scuppers will freeze with any condensation. Then any moisture (rain, snow, etc) will simply fill things up

If they had only made the deck an inch or so taller.

I still have the fish boxes that fill withe water and that water is plumed under the deck which has to be pumped up and out. Covered or not I still have that water that runs in there and since the pump doesn't evacuate it all it lays on the bottom of the hull. I cant vacuum it out and the hose with the black plastic tee is likely full of water. I don't use the fish boxes for fish or ice so it sucks there is water in there.

Kept the same design from 97-05 when Aquasport production ceased. Wellcraft 210 sportsman had the same issue and were built at least until 2011.
