Launched and recovered my boat for the first time this weekend. I have a 19 Trophy CC (yea, I know, but it sure is pretty) on a escort single axel trailer. Pulling it with a 97 Dakota extended cab, 2wd, v-6, 5 speed. Got it in and out of the ramp with no problem (no one else around so I was a little less nervous!) I put chocks behind the wheels when recovering to reduce the chance of launching the truck. I tied them to the bumper so they followed me up the ramp. Truck did good. The v-6 is a little under powered on the highway, but overall did okay.

Dave

Re: First Tow

Sounds like a nice set up that you are happy with.
It would take a little time to get up to speed even with the V8, just be patient.

Good idea for the wheel chocks. That probably saves you a little clutch material each time, because you don't have to worry about rolling back and having to rev the motor higher to catch the roll.

Once you get comfortable with your routine of launch and recovery, stick to it and things will go just as smooth on the busy days at the ramp.
(Tip for launching: Don't undo the bow hook until the boat is in the water. Too many posts on that topic each year with the boat comming clean off the trailer before the water when brakes are applied!)

Maintain the truck and trailer brakes and keep your distance when towing. The one day you are in a hurry, is the day they pull out in front of you or worse - use their brakes getting on the highway !!
