When I was about 14 years old, mom and dad bought a cabover camper and bass boat. We went camping after dad got off of work. We get to the campground around midnight, find a camping spot and attempt to pull into it. The truck did not have the power to pull the boat into the camping spot (truck was a 6 cylinder with a three on the tree) it was fairly steep. Dad with all his wisdom decided that we should go ahead and launch the boat to lighten the load.We go to the ramp, unload the boat to idle over to the campground. Mom took the camper back around to the campsite to wait for us. About halfway to the campsite dad decides to see how the boat runs.We get on plane and are cruising about 35mph. Well there was a jetty that decided to jump in front of us.
Motor flies up killing it, I go over the front managing to grab the trolling motor. Dad went over the console standing on his head, somehow he managed to hang on to the steering wheel. We fire the motor back up and idle back to camp. No body was hurt except dads pride and the boat somehow manages to avoid damage. That old boat took a lot of beatings over the years and is still going strong. I was 14 at the time and now i'm 48. My uncle still uses that boat and motor, and it still looks the same.
