Looking for help. I have a 70hp 88 envirude, my lower unit has 3 screws, bottom and top is Allen key shapes. Middle screw is Phillips head . I only removed the bottom screw n middle screw to drain oil. Than I start filling lower unit with oil until it overflows out the middle hole(set screw bearing) as I’m writing this I realize I screw up. Today I saw a oil stain on driveway, oil is leaking out the set screw bearing. I have yet ran the motor. Did I cause any damage?

No that screw only holds the bearing in place. I would get a new seal for the screw but no harm done. I would make sure the lower unit is full.

No damage was done.-------Take the middle screw out and perhaps put a new o-ring on it.----Make sure oil comes out the upper vent screw before putting plugs back in.

Thanks. I didn’t see any washers when I remove both drain/fill screws. At the parts store, Sierra 18-2387(top screw)didn’t come with a washer but Sierra 18-2378(bottom magnetic screw) came with 2 washers, 1 grey 1 white. Both screw is same slotted head. Can I use one other washer for top?

Sometimes the washers stay in the gearcase.-----Some screws have an o-ring.------At any rate make sure you check and make sure of a seal on these screws.-----Gears , shafts and bearings are expensive.

So I re wire a new bilge pump and fishdinder. What a pita it was to snake thru. Took me all few days to do what seems like pretty straight forward work. I had the bilge set on auto, than I fill up the boat with little water. At first pump works really good, than after 15 seconds I could still hear the bilge pumping but barely any water coming out. This keeps happening unless lift pump out of water than back in. Only reason I could think of is debris getting caught on the suction fan
