Today was the maiden voyage for us and our new to us boat the ?Shamrock Princess?.. Leading up to our outing, I went over the boat with a fine tooth comb - especially the outboard (90 Johnson). We packed up lunch ,dinner, grill and headed off to lake Chautauqua. The weather was awesome for a day on the lake. We arrived at the lake without any issue, sized up the launch area, and began preparing for our turn to launch. Thanks to all the reading I do on this site, I knew just what to do before getting in line to launch? I was pretty nervous, as most of these folks pulled up, backed her down the narrow concrete walled ramp and launched the boat like pros.
So my turn comes up. I back her down the ramp, get a bit askew, so I pull ahead to straighten out and then backed her straight in. Hopped out, handed my first mate the ropes, unhooked the boat gave her a shove and off she went. Jumped back in the van, parked, boogied back to the boat, jump in, prime her four/five times fires on the first try (insert smile here). Push off the dock, and away we rolled for 3 hours of simply pure joy with my wife and kids. It had to be the best fathers day ever?..
The boat performed like a champ all day. Might have a little carb cleaning ahead as she blubbers just a little bit at about 2,000 RPM. But idles and runs very well? Thinking some prop review maybe in the future as I got 35 MPH at 4500 RPM @ WOT (14x17 prop). Five people onboard (two adults/three kids). Thinking that I should be able to reach the desired 5500RPM with the same load?
So after a great day on the water, we waited our turn to pull up to the courtesy dock, got the van, backed her straight down the launch, pulled the boat over to the trailer, winched her on and we are outta the way in like less than 5 minutes (insert smile and a whew here).
I love it. I loved boating with my family?.. So as I drift off tonight with a big smile, I will be eagerly anticipating our next outing and all the fun in the sun.
