Took out my new(used) bass boat out today for a trial run. Its a `87 Cajun 16` with a `75 135HP Johnson.
I quess my question is, is there a proper way to use the tilt and trim? I noticed in the no wake zone at idle speed the engine kept bogging sorta, then I trimed the engine up and it smoothed right out. Once I left the no wake zone I started to give it throttle and I wasnt sure were to place the engine (trim). I lowered the engine I quess half way down and gave it full throttle and it seemed it took 15-20 seconds before it started to come up to plane. Once it planed that sucker REALLY took off. Cought me and the wife by surprise. Then I noticed when I came back down to idle speed, the engine acted like it was struggling, so I trimed the engine way up and it smoothed out again. Is this the way it works??
I always thought the tilt and trim was to lower and raise the engine while launching and trolling in shallow water.
any advice??
BTW,
I was near a shore line testing out the trolling motor.(works fine). Then off in the distance I hear this loud rumbling....around the bend came a guy in what looked to be a 30` duel engine spped boat. (like what you see on Miami Vice.) This guy came within 50` of us (motor off and still) . I thought he was going to hit us. Scare the **** out of the wife. Then a few min. later, here he come again, but a smaller craft pulling a tube with kids in it was coming the other way. This guy came within 25-30 feet for thier boat......
what a dangerous Jack-***...
