Have a Johnson 50 Horse (J50ELCSR) that came on an old Beachcraft I am restoring. Wanting to drop the lower unit to inspect it and change impeller. Any tricks involved or is it just unbolting it?

You may want to invest in a factory service manual.

+1 Always a good thing to have!

You'll have to double check (someone here may be able to correct me if I'm mistaken) but I believe that once you disconnect the shift rod up top there's just the one bolt under the trim tab, one in front of the trim tab under the anti-cav plate, and the 4 bolts on the sides... remove straight down (may have to gently wiggle) but it should come down fairly easily

Thanks guys. Think I'll break down and buy the shop manual now that I got it unseized. Head gasket coming next week, hopefully she'll fire off for me with just some carb cleaning...
