OK, I "found" a Nissan 9.9D 2 stroke, serial # 74037 in a family member's garage where it sat for at least 7 or 8 years. He thinks it is 10 years old, and the model number seems to be either 1998 or 2003. I'll confirm the actual model year with Nissan on Monday. It is in beautiful shape, and he says it was only used a few times in fresh water before it was put away.
1. Is there any danger in dropping it into a bucket of water and starting it up for a few seconds to see if it still works?
2. What steps should I take to service it before putting it into use?
3. What would a fair price be, assuming it is 10 years old and in good shape?
4. He thinks it was "modified" to the 15hp version. What can I check to confirm this?
I know that is a ton of information I'm asking for. I've found some of it doing searches here, but anything you can do to help would be great.
Thanks,
Greg
