Hey yall. I just bought my first boat last weekend. It's a 1969 16' SS with a 70hp Johnson. It needs the floor and possibly the transom replaced. After looking through some of your projects, I am getting excited to get started. I'll post pics this weekend!

Ditto, ditto and ditto. In the Starmada membership agreement, pics are required as payment for dues. LOL

Welcome aboard, Joe.

OK here are some pics. I was able to get the Johnson running this weekend. At first the motor revved way up every time I started it. It turned out the carb linkage connecting the two carbs was in the wrong hole on the bottom carb. That caused the throttle to be opened halfway before I even touched the throttle. I hate to admit it but that took me a day to figure out. Lol I guess this is all going to be a learning experience for me. I was going to start to pull the floor out today but it turned off cold. Oh well, maybe tomorrow.

Thanks for the pics Joe, that's a perfect example of a neglected old SC boat that needed a new home. I see the old gal has been reworked some but it's tough to find one of these oldies that hasn't been. Did the PO happen to save the port console and the rest of the windshield?

I can see the potential in that beauty !:thumb:

I have always replaced the impeller on motors I get since it's easy to do, it doesn't cost too much, and a bad impeller can spell disaster for your outboard in a hurry. Nice diagnosis on the motor. Sometimes they can be tricky to figure out what's going on.

Welcome Joe!

Nice detective work on that motor!

Now you've still got that big, green onion to deal with... time to get peelin'!
