There is two things so far on a new to me boat that I'm fixing up & don't know what they are. I was wondering if some one could help me out.

First is this plastic thing hanging down from the bottom that has something that looks like a vacuum line going to the top of the boat.

The other thing I'm trying to figure out is something that is the shape of a wiper motor mounted to the bottom of the front engine mount. They aren't very good pictures but the best I could do at the time.

Welcome aboard.

First image is a pitot tube for the speedometer.

The rest of it looks like you've got an old OMC Stringer and you're looking at the trim motor for the engine. VERY different than the modern drives.

'kogs has your parts identified

from the pics its a stringer with a 4-cylinder. based on the color, prior to 1980

there are lots of issues with stringer drives and OMC.

the fact that your boat is older than 40 years old is also a concern.

Thanks to both of you! It is a OMC 3.0.
It seems to have another mirror in the back that adjust the prop height so what would this"trim motor"do?

I thought trim was where the prop sits.

The OMC Stringer (your sterndrive) has a motor at the back to tilt the drive up and down. It is designed to run with the drive all the way down all the time. Do NOT use this for trim. You can at low RPM (like slightly above idle) tilt up for shallow water, but it's not trim.

Trim is at the front. On the Stringer the whole engine trims up and down.

Thanks Southkogs

That makes more since after doing some more work on it today. I noticed that switch that moves the outdrive goes all the way down til it hits a park switch after cleaning the switch. Guess I still need to get the trim to work.
