I just bought my first boat! It is a 1978 Steury S 1700. The engine is a 77 Mercury 115 "Tower of Power" that was overhauled 25 hours ago. The gentleman I bought it from is an engineer for the U.S. Navy and it has been his project boat for the past 10 years. I took it out this last weekend to the river in Parker AZ and it ran like a champ. The only issue is there isn't power steering so up at full speed (~30 mph) it takes some strength to turn. At lower speeds it turns on a dime though so I am not sure if power or hydraulic steering is really worth it.
