Well.........I get to give my grass its first beating of the year. Uuuugh, I dread it ! One day, when I grow up I'm going to buy me a machine with cab, air, stereo and all the bells and whistles! Maybe then the woman that occupies space with me in our domicile will mow it for me !

Yall think theres a chance ?

That the admiral will mow the grass......not a chance at all.

depending on how large of a property you have, they do make enclosed cab, mid-mount tractors that have lawn attachments. I personally liked zero turn mowers with the governor turned up to 4500 rpm to mow grass at 15mph.

Only chance you have is if the cab has a wine cooler. But if the lady is a beer drinker, any old Igloo will do. LOL

I am blessed with an Admiral who loves yardwork and lawn mowing. If I have to cut the lawn once a year, it's an unusual year. I hate cutting grass, so I am truly lucky!

Got to tell this! The Admiral here cuts the grass;and I let her! My job is gas and blades. This morning; (after last nights discussion) I got the mower (ZTR) out to get it ready for the season. She had to run into town. I did the oil;gas; and blade thing; cranked it up; and rode it out into the yard; kicked on the blades; and drove maybe 100 ft; spun around and started back. There she was; in the driveway; hand waving me to come. When I got to her; she was out of the truck; and informed me that " I was cutting the grass wrong; that she would change her clothes; come out and do it right)! Me; being an obedient child I did. The grass is started; she still has a bunch to do; our yard is big. I didn't know you could cut grass wrong; learn something new every day.

She comes from a family of ALL FEMALES with the exception of her dad. Beating the grass was her responsibility and to hear her tell of grass beating in Little Rock, AR with a "Dumb, Stupid, itty bitty mower" that wasn't self propelled on the hills in her yard was a hoot. She also informed me that she wasn't about to beat grass as long as I wasn't flat on my back gasping my last breath!!

You can ride that machine with a 72 inch deck for 4 hours....that's how long it will run on a tank of fuel beating grass as tall as in the pic ......and you might have a third of our place beat. After 4 hours of riding and beating with that machine you've had enough for a while. Its something about the way the seat and steering wheel are plus no power steering....you feel like there is a fire in between your shoulder blades.

We cant get too large of a machine though due to the number of trees on our place and navigating through them all.

I had the same issue when I was mowing a property we lived on for a while ... used to call it the "Cannon County Barrel Races."

That little B73 tractor has been a good one. It was purchased new in 1999. The hour meter today is showing 3898 hours. Every one of them spent maintaining the place in some for or fashion. Mainly beating the grass. The mower deck has had all three blade spindle assemblies overhauled once and the gearbox seals replaced twice. Other than that just routine maintenance that is all that has been done to it. It has sat as long 6 months before and cranked right up when I climbed on it. I really don't have any complaints with the machine other than I'm ready for something more comfortable and pleasant to operate. OH....and has a frontend loader on it too.

I bought a Kubota a few years back that rides pretty good. Can't find the pix. It's a ZD331, 31hp diesel, zero turn with a 72" fab deck. It's beast, extremely heavy duty. I think it weighs 1800#s dry. Can mow about 15 acres in 4hrs. Works very well for the commercial biz...... It knows how to throw grass....

Moved out here on the basalt with places that have an inch of soil. Thought I'd get away from so much mowing. Now I can't keep the blades sharp so the grass gets beat off.

That was WRONG, the wife brought in top soil, fertilizer and now expects me to mow it. It does keep the dust down a little.

Besides, last year we had a drought so my mowing was reduced. This year we're getting an over abundance of rain with ponds where fields should be.

Maybe I'll see if I can sneak away and go fishing. Worked when I was a kid.

ehenry - Please don't blame a few beers on the wet mower. Maybe she was checking the pitch on the props?

I see she used a chain on the anchor so it dug in and stayed out of the deep water. She had the situation well in hand. :D

In the long run, I think you will remain the beater. :blue:
