The firing order on my head says 1, 3, 2, 4. On my distributor it is marked the same way. My question,,, is # 1 on the top or is #4 and should the wires coming off the distributor which are numbered 1 thru 4 go to the coinciding cylinder, i.e. 1 to 1, 2 to 2, ect?

#1 is the top. #1 wire should go to #1 plug.

Re: Firing order and motorolla breaker less ign

I figured out the problem. I should have looked at the firing order before I did anything else. I bought the engine last year and put it on my project boat. Engine wouldnt idle very well or go over 4000 rpms WOT. I did take it out again and the original owner had the #1 to the #4 cylinder and the #4 to the #1 cylinder. As i figure it, I was running on two cylinders all the time. After switching the wires to where they need to go,, it idles perfectly and I suspect I will get higher than 4000rpms WOT now too. Such a simple thing for me to miss,,, but sometimes the simple things are overlooked.
